Nunc Dimittis

2017

This setting of the Nunc Dimittis is a companion piece to Tetelestai for string quartet and takes it's text from the Song of Simeon from the gospel according to Luke
It was first performed in April 2017 by the Choral Scholar's of St-Martin-in-the-Fields in St Stephen Walbrook. The setting uses the 'tone I' and 'tone II' plainchants to create the aleatoric/chant-like sections of the piece.
TEXT
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace according to thy word. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; To be a light to lighten the Gentiles and to be the glory of thy people Israel.
